Mizoram – “Songbird of the North East”

Mizoram, land of the Blue Mountains, lies in the southern- most outpost of the North Eastern States of India. Sharing borders with Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura bound this tranquil little state with its capital Aizawl. Evergreen flush with blooms of exotic flora, its hilly expanses are criss-crossed by turbulent rivers and their network of tributaries and cobweb of silvery streams.

The Mizos are fun-loving, sociable and hospitable. Living in the heart of the nature, being woken up by bird song reflects their great affinity to the most attractive features of the land in which they live.

Mizos has 10 important dances that celebrate life in all its richness. Amongst  them are Cheraw, Chai Lam, Solakia, Sarlamkai, Khullam, Chawnglaizawn, Zangtalam, and Tianglam. Its important festivals, inspired by its agricultural activities, are Chachar Kut, Anthurium festival and Thalfavang Kut.  Christmas and New Year celebrate here with great vigour.
