Mawphanlur -Explore the undiscovered land of Meghalaya

Mawphanlur a remote village  in the Indian state of Meghalaya just 75 Km from the city of Shillong. One can hire a taxi from Shillong to Markasa village and from there a 15 minutes uphill drive to Mawphanlur. This place is famous for the picturesque  view of the seven ponds which is the main attraction of this place. A perfect place to escape from the daily hassle of life. Due to its geographical set up this place is one of the coldest place in Meghalaya. One will have to carry good woolen clothes to stay here. I was astonish to see the beauty of this place. The setting down of the Sun by the hills, the sound of the cowbells ringing and the distant singing of the villagers will remain as an ever lasting memory through out my life.

I was lucky to get a cottage in a place  “Travelers Nest “. The owner of the cottage was very nice and hospitable. He welcome me with a hot meal and cup of Tea. Night become more excitement with distant singing of the villagers, crickets chirping and the  glittering Moon lights on the water of the Ponds.

We spend couple of hours under the clear sky with a bon-fire arranged by the owner.  Later we had dinner- chicken curry rice which was hot and tasty. Had a good night sleep in the cottages which are very cozy and comfortable. Next day in the morning wake up to get some more exciting pictures for my camera. The place also has some activities like cycling, angling, boating etc. You can also walk around the village and interact with the locals.

After lunch at the hotel we check out and drive to Shillong. Tour ends with sweet memories.
